Bush to sign healthcare IT order

From ModernHealthcare Alert

President Bush is expected to sign an executive order today that would require HHS and three other federal agencies to adopt and use health information technology standards, quality improvement measures, and price aggregation and transparency initiatives. Additionally, HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt is expected to announce that healthcare purchasers, employers, unions and state governments that want to do business with the federal government must also first commit to the same standards outlined in the order. The other three federal agencies are the departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs and the Office of Personnel Management.
